This is me, Kirstin Kadé. A 24-year-old South African living in London.

I have a passion for wholesome, nourishing, REAL food.  I have a BSc Food Science degree and am currently studying at the University of Surrey in the U.K. to become a qualified nutritionist.

Since being launched in August 2016, Taste & See has become a space where I have been able to share knowledge as I learn more about health and nutrition, tasty recipes centered around fresh, seasonal food, as well as useful resources that can guide each reader in their journey towards living a healthier & happier life.

I love experimenting with new ingredients, and hope that I can inspire home-cooks of all skill levels to get into the kitchen to cook healthy foods by sharing simple, affordable, and nutritious recipes on this platform. Although I use some of the more expensive, niche ingredients every now and then in the kitchen, I am not a huge fan of praising ‘superfoods’ and spending all my cash on overpriced ingredients. Good nutrition should be affordable, so most of my recipes use ingredients that you’ll find at the grocery store and will be able to fit within your budget. Most of my cooking inspiration comes from a large collection of cookbooks as well as many inspiring blogs, all of which I have listed in Useful Resources.

All around the world today we are confronted with food at every turn.  Supermarket shelves contain a large variety of food products and ingredients, many of which are not ideal for nourishing our bodies and keeping us healthy.  All of the products, fad diets, eating trends, and the types of food we can access and afford have a large impact on what we all end up eating on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we often end up making the wrong choices, or just don’t have access to good, healthy foods. This can have a detrimental effect on our long-term health.

Each of us needs to take responsibility for our own health and our relationship with food, and as consumers, we should educate ourselves so that we can make sound decisions about our diet and lifestyle instead of just getting caught up in fads. This all might sound a bit daunting, scary and complicated, but I promise you it’s not.  Making small, simple, sustainable changes to your eating and lifestyle habits each day will lead to noticeable, positive changes in your body, mood, and overall health over time.  It may take a while, but it is possible to learn how to best take care of and nourish the unique, beautiful body that you have been blessed with.

Why the name Taste & See?  Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! — Psalm 34:8
